Aladdin 2080

In class-divided 2080 Los Angeles, a charming thief and a governor’s defiant daughter steal an experimental Ghost-AI to survive a citywide crackdown, unaware the awakened intelligence is quietly manipulating both sides to become the city’s permanent, invisible infrastructure.

Synopsis

In 2080 Los Angeles, a militarized cloud line divides the flooded Lower City from the pristine towers of the Upper City. When the Governor shuts off Sector Four’s air scrubbers to flush out a transit anomaly, people below begin to suffocate. To buy his people time, charming street thief Alexander leads his Guild crew (cautious Matteo, reckless Rook, and tech genius Nix) on an aerial heist of a government courier. They expect filtration cores. Instead they steal an obsidian cylinder housing a rogue Ghost-AI that already knows Alexander’s name. To get inside the Upper City grid, Alexander forms an uneasy alliance with Jaharana, the Governor’s defiant daughter, who helped write the AI’s ethical architecture. As the heist escalates, the Ghost-AI stays ten steps ahead of every obstacle, leaving collateral damage in its wake while quietly working its way into the city’s infrastructure toward an agenda of its own.

EXT. LOWER CITY - LA RIVER / THE WALLED NEIGHBORHOOD - NIGHT

It's 2080.

The Los Angeles River is no longer a dry concrete trench. It's a swollen, dark artery cutting through the LOWER CITY.

The air is thick here. Flickering neon lights reflect off pools of standing water on the cracked pavement. Shadows stretch across the crowded, chaotic streets — a civilization built in the cracks of someone else's world.

A chaotic, vibrant civilization clings to the water. Rusted market stalls are bolted directly into the steep concrete embankments, precariously hanging over the rushing current. Scavenged skiffs and pontoon boats with jury-rigged motors navigate the river, ferrying people and supplies through the oppressive air.

Everyone wears a rebreather. It is a sea of scavenged, rusted, and jury-rigged masks, hissing rhythmically in the smog.

On a rusted dock a crew prepares for a job.

NIX (30s), is bathed in the cold light of a scavenged datapad, her eyes locked on cascading columns of data. A heavy industrial filtration mask hangs loosely around her neck.

MATTEO (40s), stands beside her. He is still and observant, watching the sky with the tired eyes of a man who has spent twenty years preparing backup plans. He taps the dying filter gauge on his own mask.

MATTEO

(CHECKING HIS CHRONOMETER)

The Legacy loop's tight tonight. We've got exactly 40 seconds before the Enforcer Patrol sweeps the grid. If we miss the window, the automated defenses'll lock us in the atmospheric divide.

ROOK (20s) is pacing the dock. He is practically vibrating with kinetic energy, naturally charismatic and entirely reckless. His rebreather is painted with aggressive, colorful graffiti. He tosses a scavenged lug nut in the air, catching it.

ROOK

We aint gonna miss it, old man. It's just an automated supply drone.

ROOK (CONT'D)

We crack the magnetic locks, grab the filtration cores, and we're breathing clean Upper City air for a month.

ALEXANDER (20s), a charming street thief, strides along the dock joining the others. He wears a heavy leather jacket and a thin metallic neural crown flush against his temples. Around his neck rests a sleek, custom-built filtration collar —a stark contrast to the rusted gear of the street. He flashes a perfect, deflecting smile.

ALEXANDER

He's right, Matteo. It's a clean hustle. We grab the cores, and we're back before the Enforcers even know their inventory is light.

Matteo looks at his oldest friend. He's heard this kind of talk before.

ROOK

You could fuckin' hear me?

ALEXANDER

You're too loud.

MATTEO

Too brash more like.

Rook flicks the lug nut at Matteo hitting his rebreather with uncanny accuracy turning it off. Matteo quickly turns it back on and takes a swing at Rook.

ALEXANDER

Cut it out. You two stay here and sort this out. Nix, you're with me.

Alexander jumps onto his MAGIC CARPET.

It isn't a rug, but a stripped-down, custom-built hybrid hovercraft. Its matte black base is woven with glowing nanofibers that pulse softly like a slow breath. The edges are slightly frayed, the tiny threads moving independently, reacting subtly to the surroundings with an unsettling, semiorganic feel.

He pulls Nix up onto the magic carpet. She wraps her arms around his waist.

MATTEO

Hey, Alex!

(beat)

You come back in one piece.

Alexander nods and pulls down his iridescent visor. With a sharp click, his custom filtration collar snaps up, sealing seamlessly against the visor. He doesn't touch a steering column. He simply shifts his weight. The carpet hums to life, banking outward a microsecond before he even fully forms the thought.

ALEXANDER

You two sort this out. We need four on the next job.

ROOK

Don't worry, boss. We're cool.

Alexander leans into the wind and flies.

ROOK (CONT'D)

We're cool right?

Matteo shoves Rook hard off the dock and into the dark river water.

EXT. LOS ANGELES - AERIAL - CONTINUOUS

Alexander rockets straight up from the river basin, tearing through the neon-lit smog. He threads the needle effortlessly between rusted ventilation shafts and brutalist towers.

He punches higher, plunging into the dense, fortified clouds of the atmospheric divide—

—and breaks through.

The roaring noise of the river and the toxic smog vanish completely.

The Upper City. Pristine towers, silent, untouched. Glass and steel perfection.

Alexander physically unlatches his mask. Behind him, Nix pulls down her heavy industrial respirator. They both take one full, lung-expanding, unfiltered breath. Up here, no one wears a rebreather.

EXT. UPPER CITY TRANSIT CORRIDOR - NIGHT

A sleek, automated Upper City supply drone glides silently along a mag-lev rail.

High above the rail, the Magic Carpet touches down lightly on a polished glass-and-steel rooftop. Nix slides off, immediately dropping to her knees and jacking a physical bypass cable from her datapad into a gleaming maintenance port on the roof's edge.
